ACTING TEACHER/ TEACHING ARTIST

Courtney Dowdell, MA, RDT, LCAT  received her Master's Degree in Drama Therapy at New York University, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola College with a major in Psychology and a minor in Theatre.  In addition to Rising City Arts, Courtney also works full-time as a Creative Arts Therapist at Bellevue Hospital Center for the Prison Psychiatry unit working with men who are incarcerated with mental illness. She is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist with the New York State Education Department, and a Registered Drama Therapist certified by the National Association for Drama Therapy. She specializes in utilizing improvisation, play writing, role-play, and performance in a group setting to work therapeutically with her clients.  Courtney remains active in the NY theatre community, and has written and performed a one woman play, called Chasing Rainbows.


She is excited to be a member of the Rising City Arts Team, and feels fortunate to utilize Theatre and Performance as a therapeutic tool to guide those who she works with toward healing and change.
